Van Helsing Beware – Dracula is Coming Back
Dr. Van Helsing better go buy some Groupons for unlimited boot camp classes because his archenemy, Count Dracula, is coming back. Apparently even with the Twilight series ending the vampire craze is not over. According to the Huffington Post NBC has ordered a 10 episode run of a new series that today is entitled “Dracula.” It’s going to star Jonathan Rhys Meyers (Tudors, Mission Impossible III) as the title character. Now here’s the premise. Dracula goes to London and poses as an American entrepreneur. For his front he pretends to want to bring modern science to the Victorian society. However, his real intentions are to take revenge on the people who have wronged. It’s not all carnage though because Dracula falls in love with a woman who appears to be a reincarnation of his dead wife.
Interesting premise and it’s not the worse idea I’ve ever heard. I am intrigued because I bet they’ll try and make this one of those “sexy” vampire dramas and Dracula hasn’t really been tackled in this manner. He’s usually all old school “I live in a castle,” “I’m a Count from Transylvania” kind of character very much unlike the characters of Twilight or Vampire Diaries. Certainly very different than true blood. There’s not much more over in the source article. Release date and additional casting have not yet been announced. This is something I’ll totally watch so I’ll stay out on the lookout and there may be a review or two in the future.
