Maybe They’re Not Aliens Anymore – Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Movie Delayed
A few months ago I had shared with you the bittersweet news that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) was getting a reboot from Michael Bay. It was awesome that one of my favorite childhood cartoons (and OK movies) were coming back with an edgy live action movie reboot. What wasn’t awesome was that apparently the script had the Ninja Turtles being aliens from another planet. The interwebs were in some sort of an uproar and I was disappointed in that concept. The eternal optimist in me wanted to think it would be done well but we all saw Transformers 2 right?
So then I came across this news this morning via the Huffington Post and The Hollywood Reporter that the movie has been put on indefinite hold. The articles don’t go into the why so we can only speculate. I hope they figured out that rebooting the Turtles as aliens wasn’t a great idea. Only time will tell us there. Even though it’s an indefinite hold sources close to the production claim a new release date in May 2014, which is a six month slip from it’s original December 2013 plan.
Is six months long enough to fix all the problems? Was it a script problem? Did Michael Bay want to make an explosion that was too big for current technology? Who knows? Are you excited for a TMNT reboot?
