Muse Digest: Two Cancelled Shows, Two Picked Up Shows and Arrested Development
Here’s the post for the things that happened this week that aren’t quite big enough for their own post so here goes.
Two Cancelled Shows
The first two cancelled shows of the season have had their heads cut off on the chopping block. No, not the cooking reality show, but the literal head off chopping block.
NBC has cancelled two shows, “Playboy Club” and “Free Agents.” I for one am not surprised at the cancellation of “Playboy Club” after three episodes. I watched the pilot episode on Hulu one day and I knew from the start it wasn’t good. The story was bad, the acting was sub-par and it just didn’t feel right.
I am a bit disappointed that “Free Agents” was cancelled though. I was actually all caught up with the show and even though it wasn’t the best new show on TV I thought it had potential. I think Hank Azaria is hilarious and was really rooting for it. It also had Anthony Stuart Head of Buffy the Vampire and Merlin fame. Who doesn’t love a good British character? Oh well, we’ll just have to deal. At least it made it four episodes?
Picked Up Shows
On the flip side NBC has picked up full seasons of two shows. I guess they had to evenly balance out the world of television show making. Get excited though, the two picked up shows are great. NBC picked up “Whitney” and “Up All Night.”
I already let you know that “Whitney” was picked up in my latest episode review and I’m still very happy about that. I’m also very excited about the “Up All Night” pick up. I wrote a post last week saying how I totally dig the show. Will Arnett, Christina Applegate and Maya Rudolph make a great cast together.
Here’s to more quality NBC comedies coming our way.
The big news last week was that Arrested Development was coming back with a new season and a movie. Wow, can you say exciting? This was even proved via tweets from the cast. Click the news link above to see the tweets. Though critically acclaimed, and almost anybody that you talk to will say the show is absolutely hilarious (I’m inclined to agree), it was cancelled after three seasons on Fox. There’s been much talk over the past couple years about a movie and it’s seemingly coming to fruition.
News today is that a bidding war may be starting for the distribution rights to the new season. Apparently Showtime, Netflix and Hulu are all in the ring vying for the rights. So who knows whether either one of them will win but what we do know is that it’ll be either on traditional TV or streaming only. Now we just have to wait and hear about production details. In the mean time you can watch season 3 on Hulu right now.Tags: arrested development, cancelled, hulu, netflix, picked up, Showtime, up all night, whitney
