Premiere Excitement: Terra Nova on Fox
The highly anticipated show Terra Nova premiers on Fox tomorrow night at 8pm. Filmed in Australia, from creators Craig Silverstein and Kelly Marcel and produced by Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment, Terra Nova has been one of the most talked about shows during the summer season. Its production schedule kept being pushed back due to high production costs. Some critics thought the project may have been canned before ever airing. I for one am excited that it is finally airing and I am very hopeful for its outcome. The plot synopsis reads as follows:
Centers on the Shannons, an ordinary family from 2149 when the planet is dying who are transported back 85 million years to prehistoric Earth where they join Terra Nova, a colony of humans with a second chance to build a civilization.
I see this as a great backdrop for a potentially compelling drama. They’ve already created a world ripe for interpersonal drama trying to create a new society as well as the inevitable drama that comes with having to constantly protect yourself from the threat of dinosaurs. Yes, I said dinosaurs and if I’ve read the tea leaves correctly we should be seeing a healthy dose of them on a weekly basis. The cast led by Jason O’mara (IMDb) is full of many new names (at least to me) but that is what’s needed on such a high cost show. The clips posted online are promising and this cast has potential.
I still reserve the right to change my mind after the show airs. Let’s hope for high production value and good writing so we can see a show that lasts at least one season.
